On January 31st, we concluded our road trip that took us coast to coast. So here are some of the details of our trip, by the numbers.
But first here is a rough trace of the route we took.
Number of days in our trip: 95. We left on October 28, 2013, and returned to Southern California on January 31, 2014.
Number of miles driven: 9,100. That works out to an average of almost 96 miles per day. Naturally, we weren’t on the road every day but this includes all “local” miles while visiting various places along the way.
Number of different hotels we stayed in: 34. A few of these were one nighters but most were 2, 3 or even 4 nights. Fortunately, in some cases we were able to enjoy the hospitality of family in Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia.
Number of State Capitol’s visited: 14. Santa Fe, NM; Oklahoma City, OK; Little Rock, AR; Nashville, TN; Frankfort, KY; Annapolis, MD; Richmond, VA; Raleigh, NC; Columbia, SC; Atlanta, GA; Montgomery, AL; Baton Rouge, LA; Austin, TX; Phoenix, AZ. We were not able to tour the inside of the Capitol in Nashville due to our timing but we toured all of the other 13. And let’s not forget the US Capitol which we also toured.
Number of States visited/driven through: 18. Plus Washington, DC. States we visited twice, ie. eastbound and westbound: California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
Number of photos/videos taken: approximately 7,000. Sure, it’s impossible to pick out the most notable or favorite. Valerie does a terrific job of capturing sights and experiences that we want to hold on to.
Wow – incredible journey! That kind if trip definitely on our bucket list…..
If we get back out on the road I think we’ll be in a motor home next time.
How can you be so thin and live so fat? Nice trip. Exactly how much does 34 hotel stays cost?
Everything in moderation. Our 34 hotel stays averaged about $55 per night, Quality Inn, Sleep Inn, Travelodge, Econolodge, etc.
I would LOVE to take a trip like that, but unfortunately I have no traveling partner and I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing it by myself, besides no one to talk to, LOL! I have truly enjoyed traveling with you vicariously! Thanks!
