This is the first time we have traveled (in our motorhome) outside of the state of California since January 2017, about 15 months ago.  We drove in our car to Tahoe for skiing earlier this year but otherwise we spent all of 2017 and the first part of 2018 in California.  We crossed into Oregon on Highway 101 while moving from Crescent City, CA, to Coos Bay, OR.

Crescent City, CA

Continuing our travel up the Pacific coast, we stopped off for a couple of days in Crescent City.  There’s not a lot to see here but there is a nice harbor and waterfront area.  We encountered quite a bit of rain and were rewarded with a lovely full rainbow.

We also enjoyed a local seafood restaurant and market, Crescent Seafood.  They served a terrific Cioppino made with a rich tomato based sauce.  It was filled with crab, shrimp, mussels, clams, oysters and bits of fish.  It really went well with the cold, rainy weather.

Navarre, FL

Navarre is located in the Florida panhandle, on the Gulf Coast, a little east of Pensacola and a little west of Ft. Walton Beach.  Navarre Beach is located on a barrier island which is about 1 mile offshore.  We are parked at the Emerald Beach RV Park.

Emerald Beach RV Park

We booked this spot a while ago to ensure that we had a place for Thanksgiving and to give us an anchor location from where we could drive our car to the annual Cooper family event at Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee.  Our research turned out well this time.  This park has an almost perfect combination of facilities, amenities and services that suits our needs very well. Colimilla

Colimilla is a small village located on the peninsula of Isla de Navidad just across the lagoon on the back side of Barra de Navidad.  This part of the peninsula is dominated by the Grand Bay Hotel.

A short water taxi ride will take you to one of the restaurants in Colimilla along the shore of the lagoon.  We chose Restaurant Mary’s and had a terrific lunch of ceviche and a fresh seafood salad with shrimp, mussels, octopus, crab and fish.
