The month began with completing our move into the house in San Diego. Once settled, we went for a local hike around the nearby Lake Miramar reservoir and then up to Murrieta to watch Mia play T-ball and have lunch with the family.
On the 10th, Valerie and I had an anniversary brunch on Shelter Island near downtown San Diego. While dining, we noticed the cruise ships docked in San Diego and were inspired to check out upcoming cruises. When we saw that there was a 5 night cruise departing on the 17th, we decided to take advantage of it.
Following our time in Belize, we reversed course and took a boat to Chetumal, Mexico. From there we got a shuttle to Playa del Carmen and then another shuttle to just outside of the Cancun airport. Here we got a taxi to Cancun’s hotel zone to spend 5 days prior to our return to the US.
We stayed at the same hotel (photos) where we stayed in 2012, the Grand Oasis Sens. It suits us well since it is an adult only hotel, not too big but big enough to have good restaurant variety, a nice pool and plenty of activities and entertainment.
We had a good time, enjoyed the pool and had some good food. On November 6th it was time to return to the US.
Playa del Carmen is about 60 miles south of the Cancun airport. It is in the heart of this lovely stretch of coastline known as the Riviera Maya. This area encompasses the coastline along the eastern side of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. The coast is lined with a series of beach resorts and tourist attractions.
Colimilla is a small village located on the peninsula of Isla de Navidad just across the lagoon on the back side of Barra de Navidad. This part of the peninsula is dominated by the Grand Bay Hotel.
A short water taxi ride will take you to one of the restaurants in Colimilla along the shore of the lagoon. We chose Restaurant Mary’s and had a terrific lunch of ceviche and a fresh seafood salad with shrimp, mussels, octopus, crab and fish.
