West Coast Trip

In late September/early October, we flew to Los Angeles to visit friends and family.  In no particular order, we did the following:

  • With Steve and Wende, we went to downtown LA and toured the Grammy Museum, took a ride on Angels Flight and stopped into Grand Central Market.
  • On another day, we went to the “Old World Village” in Huntington Beach to sample their Octoberfest celebration.
  • Over the weekend, Steve and Kevin went to San Francisco and attended the San Francisco 49ers game, playing against the Seattle Seahawks.  Unfortunately, SF lost but we enjoyed the trip.
  • While we were in SF, Valerie visited with Jason, Ashley, Tad and Mia.  She also had lunch with her long-time friend, Delcy.
  • We took a trip out to Prescott, Arizona, to visit Tim and Dinah.  We enjoyed some nice hiking, and I had a thrilling ride with Tim in their Porsche 911.
  • The timing of our visit coincided with birthdays for Steve as well as for Valerie’s son, Tim.  Steve and Wende hosted a nice birthday cookout for the family.
  • Valerie and I visited with her Aunt Amy (her Mom’s sister).

The Move – Day 2

Today we started in Holbrook, AZ, and ended in Tucumcari, NM.  The only “notable” events were crossing into New Mexico and therefore, losing an hour with the change to Mountain Time.  Very exciting.

Entering New Mexico

Just east of Holbrook, Interstate 40 passes through the Petrified Forest National Park.  Of course, you can’t really see anything from the highway but, fortunately, we visited the park back in 2013.

Day 2 miles driven was about 430.  This includes 20 miles driven in an ill-advised detour attempting to bypass a stretch of I-40 with construction in progress.  Didn’t work out.

The Move – Day 1

The fun began yesterday, Day 0.  We had reserved the trailer for pickup at 9:00am on 5/25.  I arrived a few minutes prior and noticed that the trailer was there in the parking lot.  Once the office opened, I went inside along with one other customer.  The trailer was, in fact, the one reserved for us but there was a problem with one of the safety chains.  They were attempting either locate a nearby replacement or get someone to repair the chain.  Bottom line, I went back home to await the outcome not knowing when we might get a trailer.

Prescott, AZ

We’ve been wanting to visit Prescott but we now had additional incentive.  Earlier this year, our friends Tim and Dinah sold their home in Torrance and moved to Prescott, so this stop allowed us to visit with them and to see Prescott.  Tim and Dinah showed us their new town and took us to see many of the great sights around the Prescott area.  We parked the motorhome at Orchard Ranch Resort.
