Uncle Jackie

Following a battle with an infection, my Uncle Jackie Cooper passed away on April 11, 2018.  He was the last Uncle for me and my siblings.  He was 81.  We last visited with Jackie and his family at his home in May 2016.

After serving in the Navy, Jackie joined the Murray City Fire Department and ultimately served as Chief for 10 years before retiring.  He had a second career as a safety officer with the New Orleans Public School System.  He then returned to Murray where he enjoyed his hobby of restoring cars.  He was very good at it.  He was a terrific guy who took good care of his family.

Quitting Facebook

I’m quitting Facebook.  This is not an indication that I don’t want to stay connected to family and friends.  It is due to a combination of concerns about privacy and my view on how Facebook has been co-opted by commerce and politics.

I’m Starting Social Security at 62

Think and Invest

I turned 62 this month.  I know what you’re thinking.  I don’t look a day over 61 and a half.  Thank you.  If you Google anything related to the topic of when to take Social Security you must be prepared to wade through a massive amount of articles discussing whether it is better to start retirement benefits at 62 or wait until your full retirement age or until you reach age 70.  I’m not going to pretend that I can adequately address all of the various scenarios, some of which can be quite complex, that come into play when people address this question.  I can only give you my view.
