We settled on Woodville, parking at Parnell Creek RV Park, since we couldn’t really find a suitable RV park close in to Huntsville. Our primary objective was to visit the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville. Woodville is about 20 miles southeast of Huntsville.

The town of Gadsden is in northeast Alabama on the Coosa River at a point where it broadens out into Lake Gadsden. We parked at the River Country Campground where our RV site was right on the lake.
We were attracted to Gadsden for Noccalula Falls. This 90-foot waterfall is on Black Creek, a tributary to the Coosa River, just north of downtown Gadsden. The waterfall is named for an Indian maiden who is said to have jumped to her death here rather than be forced by her father to marry a man she did not love. The Noccalula Falls Park includes a gorge trail, sightseeing train, a petting zoo and historical buildings.
Gadsden is the southern end of the Lookout Mountain Parkway, a scenic 93 mile drive across three states between Gadsden and Chattanooga, TN. This provides a good reason for a return visit.

From the time of its founding in 1871 until the end of the 1960’s, Birmingham was the primary industrial center of the South. Its leading industries were the production of iron and steel, making it known as the Pittsburgh of the South. In addition, both rails and railroad cars were produced in Birmingham, making it a significant hub of railroading. Between 1902 and 1912 four large office buildings were constructed at the intersection of 20th Street and 1st Avenue leading to the nickname of “The Heaviest Corner on Earth”.

We briefly visited here on our road trip in 2014. This time we spent three nights at the Montgomery South RV Park located in Hope Hull, AL.
On our previous visit we had toured the state Capitol building and some of the other major attractions. This time we took a short walking tour conducted by the Montgomery Visitors Center and explored the Rosa Parks Library and Museum. It provides a creative and moving presentation of a turning point in civil rights in this country. We also drove out to the Blount Cultural Park to visit the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts and the Shakespeare Theatre.
Next stop: Birmingham, AL
We had only a one night stop over in Mobile (pics) which only gave us time for a quick drive around and a meal, but more about that in a moment.
