Summer vs. Winter

Back in September, we spent some time here in Tahoe and took a hike through a portion of the Heavenly ski resort.  At that time we took this photo from the top of the Upper North Bowl ski run.  For reference, I have superimposed a red circle just to the right of the center of the photo.  Inside the circle you can see the Olympic Express chair lift.

It’s Ski Season

On January 14, 2013, we finally made our way to Tahoe for some skiing.  The Sierra Mountains had good early snowfall and ski areas have built up a good base.  We have been able to ski a bit so far and conditions have been excellent.  We’ve had clear skies with daytime temps in the mid 40’s.  Not warm enough to get any significant melting but warm enough for comfortable skiing. Another Tahoe Snowstorm

Another storm came through early on Tuesday, Feb 6.  When we woke up there was probably less than one inch of new snow.  With some uncertainty about how the weather would play out on the mountain, Valerie didn’t want to ski so I went alone.  I skied for about 3 hours and the snow fell non stop; at times what I would call “pounding” snowfall.  Ultimately, the storm dropped 15” of new snow on Heavenly.
