Continuing our mini-vacation to the San Francisco Bay Area, from Oakland we headed east to the town of Oakley, home to Valerie’s long time friends, Roger and Jo Anne. They have been friends with Valerie and her kids for many years.
On our first day, we took a day trip when Roger drove us all back west to San Francisco, across the Bay Bridge and then south to Half Moon Bay. This is a small beach community that seems to have mostly avoided allowing itself to be overrun by development. Just to the south of the town is a four mile stretch of beach that is the Half Moon Bay State Beach with a walking path, nice broad beaches and a campground. We had lunch at the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company. This is a beautiful stretch of California coastline.
The next day, we took a walk around their neighborhood with Roger and saw some of his favorite neighbors, sheep, goats and emu. Before leaving we enjoyed a beautiful salad that Jo Anne prepared for us.
