Coos Bay, OR

This is the first time we have traveled (in our motorhome) outside of the state of California since January 2017, about 15 months ago.  We drove in our car to Tahoe for skiing earlier this year but otherwise we spent all of 2017 and the first part of 2018 in California.  We crossed into Oregon on Highway 101 while moving from Crescent City, CA, to Coos Bay, OR.

Cape Arago Lighthouse

We parked at the Oceanside Beachfront RV Park in Charleston, OR.  Charleston is a fishing harbor.  We made a couple of visits to Chuck’s Seafood in Charleston where they sell local fish, oysters, clams, mussels, etc.  They also smoke and can these items on site.  We especially enjoyed the locally grown, shucked oysters.

We were very close to 3 Oregon state parks, Sunset Bay, Shore Acres and Cape Arago State Parks.  They exhibit great stretches of dramatic coastline.  We also took a day trip north of Coos Bay to the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area which extends 40 miles north from Coos Bay along the Oregon coast.

Next stop:  Lincoln City, OR

  1. My daughter did a marine biology internship at the aquarium in Newport a few years ago, and I got to see Coos Bay during that time. It was a memorable trip for me because of the time spent with her, and I fell in love with the Oregon coast. I can’t wait until we make it up that way. I love your photograph! Dawn
