In Waterloo, NY, we parked at the Waterloo Harbor Campground.  This is in the heart of the Finger Lakes region of New York.  When you look at a map you can easily imagine the movement of glaciers that gouged out this series of lakes in a pattern that looks like fingers extending from a hand.

RV Step Motor Replacement

The steps on our RV are operated by an electric motor that turns a semi-circular shaped metal plate.  That plate has a has an arm attached to it that causes the steps to extend and retract.  The motor works on the principal that it will continue to run until it meets a certain amount of resistance and then it will stop.  So, for example, if you open the door when you are parked near a curb, the steps will extend until they bump into the curb then the motor will stop.

Yes, it’s true.  Niagara Falls is amazing.  It seems like that word is getting overused these days.  Can a hamburger really be “amazing”?  Let’s agree that Niagara Falls is truly amazing.  It’s one of those wonders of nature that you have to experience in person to fully appreciate.  After visiting Niagara Falls and Iguazú Falls (in August 2013), we have now seen two of the world’s three most spectacular waterfalls with Victoria Falls remaining for a future trip.  Niagara Falls, consisting of the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Horseshoe Falls, is tops in terms of vertical drop combined with water volume but the 1.7 miles long series of waterfalls at Iguazú deserves its own type of amazing.

We came to the Buffalo area, parking at the AA Royal Motel and Campground in North Tonawanda, NY, primarily to visit Niagara Falls.  On our first day there, the weather forecast was less than ideal for a trip to the falls so we chose instead to take a short drive to the town of Lockport, NY.

Jamestown, NY

Jamestown is located on the southern end of the Chautauqua Lake in far western New York state.  Jamestown is also the birthplace of Lucille Ball.  At the age of 15, Lucy convinced her mother to allow her to go to New York City to attend an acting school where she was told that she had no talent and should find something else more suitable.  Clearly, she persisted and some 6 years later began to get work as a model.
