Bardstown is located about 50 miles south/southeast of Louisville and about 62 miles southwest of Lexington. Bardstown is the self proclaimed Bourbon Capital since there are a substantial number of distilleries surrounding it, including: Makers Mark, Heaven Hill, Four Roses, Jim Beam and Barton 1792. We took the opportunity to visit Makers Mark while we were here.
In addition, we made some family visits. My sister’s daughter, Holly, her husband Jason and children Lucien and Mattie live in Lexington where they run a lovely coffee shop called Southland Perk. On another day, my brother’s daughter Alyson, her husband Corey and their daughter Olivia hosted a nice cook-out at their home in Louisville.
On Friday, May 27th, we spent the day at Churchill Downs for a full schedule of horse racing. There were 9 races, two of which were on the turf track, with varying lengths from 6 furlongs to 1 1/16 mile. Valerie picked the winning horse in the final race which at almost 5 to 1, paid us back most of what we lost on earlier bets. Now, before you start asking us for a loan, please note that we were placing $2 bets.
