We figured the best view of Seattle (pics) and surrounding area would be from the highest point. The Columbia Center building in downtown Seattle has a Sky View Observatory on its 73rd floor. The total building height is 943 feet with the height at the observatory being 902 feet.
From within the observatory you can get a 360 degree view of Seattle, Puget Sound, Lake Washington and Mount Rainier which is about 59 miles distant from downtown Seattle. Mount Rainier, considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, has a summit elevation of 14,411 making it the highest peak in the state of Washington and the fifth highest in the contiguous 48 states of the US. It is the most glaciated peak in the contiguous 48 states with 26 major glaciers and 36 square miles of permanent snow fields.
You will also notice that from the observatory you are looking down upon the Space Needle which has a total height of 605 feet.
